Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for adults 60 years and older, the senior center provides a wide variety of services, including meals, transportation, home chore services, social activities, and educational opportunities targeted to seniors. Federal funding allows that most of these services are provided for a suggested donation only, so a senior will not be turned away for inability to pay. Call the number above and speak with a case worker who specializes in connecting you with the appropriate resource. La Plata Integrated Health – (970) 335-2288
Operated by AXIS Health System, La Plata Integrated Health is a federally funded community health center meeting the primary care as well as behavioral health needs of all members of our community. Integrated health focuses on the whole person and the support they need to improve their chances for a healthy life. Clients will not be turned away, regardless of ability to pay or provide documentation. Specialists on site will help uninsured and underinsured patients find appropriate coverage.

The Department of Human Services offers public assistance mandated and regulated by state and federal law. The department goal is to support community members in their own efforts at well- being.
La Plata Family Centers - (970) 385-4747
La Plata Family Centers specialize in finding housing for all members of our community, not just families. They also provide assistance with the cost of utilities, and acquiring health coverage. Their emergency food, diaper, and child supply pantry gives folks a hand when money is extra tight. They host a myriad of family support services and educational opportunities as well.
Durango Transit - (970) 259-5438
Durango Transit provides $1 fare on fixed routes throughout the city. Monthly/Annual passes are available at discounted rates for low income, disabled, seniors, and students. The Opportunity bus, (970) 247-3577, provides door to door service to qualified individuals unable to use fixed routes for $2 each way.
Manna Soup Kitchen - (970) 385-5095
Manna Soup Kitchen provides meals free of charge to anyone who wants one. In addition, they host a culinary arts educational program. They also provide vouchers for haircuts, bus passes, thrift stores, etc. Visit their website for details and hours.
Durango Community Shelter – (970) 259-1255
Our Community shelter has beds for up to 35 people with specific restrictions on who can stay and for how long. Their priority is finding permanent homes for families via Section 8 and Durango Housing, etc.
Southwest Safe House – (970) 259-5443
The safe house is a place of refuge for women and children with a history of domestic violence. They average 12-30 people at a time, but will not turn anybody away.
